About us

Niemerg’s opened September 1, 1978 under the leadership of two 23 year old kids. High school classmates who learned as they grew, worked countless hours and are still leading us today. We started with a staff of about 20 people in 1978 and are proud to now be a team that includes 175 members. We have multiple members of our team who have been with us over 35 years and have a number of staff that are the 3rd generation of their families to work with us here at Niemerg’s.

We continue to prepare our dishes just like we did in 1978 - made-from-scratch just like grandmother taught us many years ago. We make our own salads, salad dressings, daily lunch and dinner specials, and don't forget the baked goods. We sell an average of 1000 pies per week - from rolling out the crust to finished product - our pies and other baked goods get the special attention you can taste!

We offer a number of Iowa Premium Beef steaks that are cut here in house by our dedicated kitchen staff. Incredibly tender. Naturally juicy. Abundantly flavorful.

Niemerg's is also well known for Fried Chicken that is breaded in our secret family recipe and fried to a golden brown. We serve over 15,000 pieces of chicken during the average week.

We are proud to be a locally owned, independent restaurant that has served over thirty-four million customers over the past 45 years. We are honored to be able to support our local community in a number of different ways and are appreciative of the support the Effingham community has shown us in return. We promise to continue what has worked in the past and will continue to grow with the needs of the customer in the future.
